Most of the schools in the City are those provided by the Corporation as Local
Education Authority, and these at the time of the Survey comprised:-
Secondary (Grammar) Schools 3, Primary Schools 76, Secondary (Technical) Schools 3,
Nursery Schools 3,
Other Secondary Schools 30, Schools for handicapped children 6, Hostels for maladjusted
children 2
There were also 14 voluntary schools where the religious denominations concerned owned
the buildings but the running expenses were the responsibility of the Corporation, two
Secondary Grammar Schools under the control of the Nottinghamshire County Council and a
number of private schools of varying size. In addition there was one independent Grammar
School for Boys and one Direct Grant Grammar School for Girls.
Other educational provisions included:-
Nottingham University, Nottingham and District Technical College, College of Art and
Crafts (incorporating a School of Architecture), Clarendon College of Further Education,
People's College of Further Education and Boots' College.
